Summary of the study programme
To give students abilities within the field of history. This programme gives students a solid foundation about the field of history as a scientific discipline, and special knowledge about Faroese history in an international context. To give students a good understanding of methods and theory within the field and how to apply these to research and interpretation of scientific work within history. To give students experience and ability to use cross-disciplinary methods and work with problem-oriented projects.
Relevance for further studies
With this degree the student can expect to meet the requirements to continue their education on relevant M.A. (‘2nd Cycle’) programmes, and – depending on their terms of admission – to other M.A. programmes outside the field of history. It is necessary to ensure that all pre-requisites have been met for the individual programmes prior to applying, given that institutions will differ in their terms of admission.

- Explain in broad terms world history before and after 1750.
- Delineate fundamental issues in European history before and after 1750.
- Analyse a variety of historical authorities and explain the difference between them.
- Question and evaluate historical authorities.
- Evaluate historical authorities in the context of the subject matter.
- Explain fundamental historical concepts and apply these to historical authorities.
- Analyse the relation between different kinds of historical sources.
- Analyse and make precise conclusions about a specific historical source.
- Identify connections between concepts in older Faroese history and historical circumstances in neighbouring countries.
- Explain the legal framework that is the basis for public archives and the fundamental task of public archives.
- Assess the importance archives have to different parts of society.
- Examine historical authorities at National Archives to answer specific historical assignments.
- Describe how knowledge from other academic fields may be applied in historical work.
- Arrange own study and results in a coherent and focused dissertation, and to use this as a basis to extract relevant and well-founded conclusions and perspectives.

Assessment methods
Written exams, written exams with an oral presentation, oral presentations (individual and in groups), projects, etc. The BA assertation is defended orally.
Working methods
Teaching methods are lectures, student presentations, written assignments, group work and exercises. Most of the sixth term is dedicated to working with the BA assertation under guidance.
